The exterior version of the colourless safety membrane, certified 2B2 to NF EN 12600 by CEBTP in 2017. It holds panes together after breakage where inside application is not possible.
SEC 054X is the outside-face version of Reflectiv's colourless anti-shatter membrane, specified for panes under 3 square metres. It does not make glass unbreakable. What it does is hold the pieces to the film after the pane goes, so a broken window stays a sheet instead of becoming shrapnel.
It is certified 2B2 to NF EN 12600, tested by CEBTP in 2017. The build is 100 microns of PET with a 25 g/m2 acrylic polymer adhesive: breaking load 17.5 daN/cm, elongation at break 100%, UVA transmission 5%, fire rating Euroclass B-s1, d0. Fitting wants the glass above 5 degrees.
Two boundaries matter when specifying it. The 3 square metre limit is a real one, and larger panes take SEC 058X, a 200 micron film rated 1B1. And this is the exterior film, chosen when the inside face cannot be reached or is not the right surface to work on. The interior twin, SEC 054, carries the same certification and the same numbers.
SEC 054X is an outside-face film for glazing under 3 square metres. Reflectiv designs its films for normal clear glass and the safety rating is earned on that basis, so anything unusual should be checked before order. Above 3 square metres the specification changes to SEC 058X. Polycarbonate can bubble under any adhesive film and wants a compatibility test first.
