
A colourless 100-micron film that forms an integral membrane over the pane, holding shards in place after breakage. Certified 2B2 under NF EN 12600 and suited to everyday glazing up to three square metres.
SEC 054 is the everyday version of Reflectiv's security membrane: transparent 100 micron PET bonded with 25 grams per square metre of acrylic polymer adhesive. Applied to the inside face it forms an integral membrane over the pane, so glass hit in a break-in, an explosion or an accident crazes but stays in one held sheet instead of shattering into the room.
Its classification is 2B2 under NF EN 12600, the European pendulum impact standard for glass in buildings, and the mechanics are published plainly: a breaking load of 17.5 decanewtons per centimetre with 100% elongation at break, which is the stretch that absorbs an impact. Fire behaviour is B-s1,d0, and UVA transmission is held to 5%, which slows fading incidentally.
Reflectiv sizes it for ordinary panes up to about three square metres. Above that, or where forced entry is the design case, the 200 micron SEC 058 takes over; for glazing only reachable from outside there is SEC 054X, the same membrane certified for external application. Durability is quoted at 12 to 15 years vertical in central Europe.
SEC 054 is applied to the inside face of any normal clear glass. The pane must be spotless before fitting, polycarbonate is to be avoided, and the film wants thirty days before its first clean, non-abrasive and ammonia-free after that. Like every security film it strengthens glass; it does not make it unbreakable.
