Safety film from 3M
A tinted anti-shatter film that pairs glass retention with serious solar performance, 43% heat rejection and strong glare control at a deep 6% VLT.
SAS5 is the darkest film in 3M's Scotchshield Auto Security series: a charcoal 100 micron polyester that combines a deep 6% VLT tint with the shard-holding job of a safety film. It is metal free, so it will not interfere with phones, GPS or satellite radio, and it blocks 99% of UV, the largest single cause of fading.
The numbers move with the glass. On 6 mm clear glass it rejects 43% of total solar energy and cuts glare by 94%. On automotive green glass the rejection rises to 60%, because tinted glass is already doing part of the work. Tensile strength is 172 MPa with elongation past 110%, which is what lets the film stretch and hold shattered glass rather than tearing with it.
Choose it for driver privacy and cabin heat in one layer, or anywhere a dark tint and glass retention are wanted together. Which glass it suits
SAS5 is a wet-application film for glass only, fitted by a professional installer. 3M publishes its figures on 6 mm clear glass and on standard automotive glass, and advises neutral, non-abrasive cleaners once fitted: no scrapers, and no stickers or suction mounts on the film surface.
