An exterior IR film in an extra-clear finish that rejects 56% of solar energy while leaving the look of the glass essentially unchanged. Suits every glass type, including double-glazed and Low-E units that need outside application.

IR 50X is the extra-clear member of Reflectiv's exterior IR range. It rejects 56% of solar energy while passing 66% of visible light, so the glass keeps its look from both sides. Infrared rejection is 62% and ultraviolet 99%. Where a silver solar film announces itself on a facade, this one mostly does not.

The film is 80 microns of PET and comes on 1.52 metre rolls in 5, 10 and 30 metre lengths. Because it is fitted to the outside face, Reflectiv clears it for every glass type, including the tinted, laminated and large double-glazed units an interior film has to leave alone.

Set expectations on the numbers. At 66% light transmission this is a heat and glare film, not a privacy or blackout one. The room stays bright and the view out stays open, which is usually why an extra-clear film is chosen in the first place. If you want more rejection from the same clear look, IR 80X is the stronger film in the same exterior family.

Which glass it suits

IR 50X goes on the outside face, and Reflectiv passes it for all glazing: clear, tempered, tinted, laminated and wired glass, and double-glazed units of any size, including laminated and tinted ones. Fitting outside is what buys that freedom, so the survey needs to cover safe access, the condition of the frame, and how the glass will be cleaned afterwards.
