Window film in Skardu

Window film supplied and installed in Skardu by Protek Devices, authorized for 3M, TotalGard and Reflectiv since 2000. Heat, safety and privacy film, specified for Skardu's climate.

Above 2,200 metres.

Skardu is higher again, with the strongest ultraviolet and the coldest winters of anywhere we work, and a growing number of hotels built to take in the view.

The specification is unambiguous here: clear, high ultraviolet rejection, nothing that costs the room its solar gain.

In short

Protek Devices installs 3M, TotalGard and Reflectiv window film in Skardu. A planned trip, arranged around the scope of the project. Commercial work starts with an on-site survey; homes are usually filmed in a single visit.

What Skardu's climate asks of the glass.

Cooler air, but thinner air too: ultraviolet climbs sharply with altitude, and snow on the ground reflects it back up at the glass. The problem here is rarely heat. It is fading, glare, and warmth escaping through the pane in winter.

What we specify here

Ultraviolet rejection without solar rejection — a clear film that blocks 99% of UV protects furnishings and skin while letting the winter sun through to do its job. Rejecting solar gain here would make rooms harder to heat, not more comfortable.

Worth knowing

Double glazing is more common at altitude, and film on the wrong face of a sealed unit causes problems. Externally-applied films exist for exactly this and we specify them where the glazing calls for it.

Getting to Skardu

A planned trip, arranged around the scope of the project.

We work throughout Pakistan, and the portfolio on this site lags the work — no Skardu install is written up yet. We would rather say that than show you someone else's building and imply it was ours.

Coverage

Across Skardu.

We fit film throughout the city, including Skardu town, Sadpara Road, Airport Road and Shangrila Road. Nowhere is off the list; these are simply the areas we are asked for most.

Questions

Skardu installs, answered.

Can film be fitted in winter here?

It can, but the cure takes considerably longer in the cold and we would usually recommend waiting for milder weather if the timing is yours to choose. If it is not, we will fit it and tell you honestly how long to leave it before judging the result.

It is cold here. Why would we reject solar heat?

You would not, and we would not suggest it. At altitude the problem is ultraviolet, not heat — thin air lets more of it through and snow reflects it back up at the glass. A clear film blocking 99% of UV protects furnishings and skin while letting the winter sun through to warm the room, which is exactly what you want.

Our windows are double glazed. Is film safe on them?

It needs care. Double glazing is more common at altitude, and the wrong film on the wrong face of a sealed unit traps heat between the panes and can stress the seal. Externally-applied films are made for this situation and we specify them where the glazing calls for it.
