STN 281 is not a film. It is real stone, split thin, reinforced with polyester resin and mounted on double-sided foam tape, so a stone face can go onto glass, panel or board without the weight or the wet trades of tiling.
Reflectiv sells it as harder and stronger than slate tile, at 3 to 6 millimetres thick, and supplies it as a set of ten pieces measuring 150 by 600 millimetres. STN 281 is the Scotland colourway. The range also runs Canada, Moscow and Austria, so a sample is worth seeing before a wall is committed to one.
Each piece is natural stone, so grain, tone and thickness vary from piece to piece by nature rather than by fault, and a run is worth laying out dry before it is fixed. This is an interior product. Reflectiv keeps a separate range of translucent stones for panels lit from behind, so if backlighting is the point, that is the range to ask for rather than this one.
Which glass it suits
STN 281 is fixed with double-sided foam tape to a clean, dry interior surface: glass, panel or board. It is not a window film, so it is not specified by glazing type, and it does not go outside. The pieces are 150 by 600 millimetres and come ten to a set, so a wall is set out from those dimensions.
