Safety film from 3M

A 175μm clear film that steps up tear resistance for higher-risk windows. Improves asset protection and holds shards together during impact and break-in attempts.

SH7 is a single 175 micron ply of optically clear polyester, shatter and abrasion resistant, applied to the interior face of windows and doors. Break strength steps up to 778 newtons per 25 mm from SH4's 445, and 3M rates it for the harder jobs: break and entry incidents, spontaneous glass breakage and seismic events.

Under ANSI Z97.1 safety-glazing impact testing it passes at 150 foot-pounds, Class B. The adhesive is a weatherable acrylate that bonds physically to the glass and stays optically flat: 3M's own acceptance test is that the film shows no distortion viewed from ten feet at angles up to 45 degrees. The surface coating holds haze below 5% under abrasion testing, so routine cleaning does not scuff it.

Two limits are stated plainly in 3M's own specification. For break-and-entry, and on single-pane tempered glass, the film must be paired with 3M's Impact Protection Attachment sealant, which anchors the filmed glass to its frame. And it is not approved for windstorm or blast mitigation; for blast work, step up to SH14 or Ultra S800.

Which glass it suits

SH7 is wet-applied by an authorized dealer to the interior surface of glass in windows and doors. 3M publishes its solar figures on quarter-inch clear glass: 86% of visible light passes and under 1% of UV, so the room stays bright while fading slows. It is not bulletproof and not a windstorm film.
