Safety film from 3M
The 100μm entry into 3M clear safety film. Adds a durable abrasion-resistant coating and 99% UV rejection, baseline glass retention for homes and offices.
SH4 is the entry point to 3M's clear Safety Series: a single 100 micron ply, optically clear, with the same 172 MPa tensile strength as the films above it and a break strength of 445 newtons per 25 mm. Glass with SH4 on it can still break, but the shards stay stuck to the film instead of flying.
3M positions it for safety glazing and seismic work rather than break-ins. It can help bring existing glass in line with safety-glazing codes, and in an earthquake it helps hold a broken pane in its frame so glass does not fall from windows, balconies or guardrails. It is tested to ANSI Z97.1 and EN 12600, and blocks 99% of UV alongside.
For deliberate forced entry, step up to SH7, SH8 or SH14, which 3M rates for break and entry when combined with its Impact Protection Attachment sealant. SH4's job is the everyday accident and the falling pane: homes, schools and offices where the risk is people meeting glass, not people coming through it.
Which glass it suits
SH4 goes on the interior surface of glass in windows and doors. It is the safety-glazing and seismic choice rather than a forced-entry barrier, and like every window film it is not bulletproof. For break-and-entry protection 3M specifies the thicker SH films combined with its IPA edge sealant.
