Heat rejection film from 3M
Sun control taken to another level. A nano-multilayer film that rejects heat-producing infrared while staying remarkably clear at 70% VLT, comfort and energy savings without darkening the glass.
Prestige 70 is a multilayer PET and PMMA film with no metal in its construction. It controls heat by rejecting infrared selectively instead of mirroring the whole spectrum, so the glass keeps its natural look from both sides. Nothing in the film corrodes in humid or coastal air, and phone, Wi-Fi and satellite signals pass through unaffected.
On single clear glass it rejects 50% of total solar energy and cuts heat gain through the pane by 38%, while passing 70% of visible light. On clear double glazing the same film still cuts heat gain by 17%. Glare drops by about a fifth on every glass type, and 99.9% of UV is blocked, which is what slows furniture, stock and fittings from fading.
Within the 3M range, choose Prestige 70 when the glass must not look tinted: shopfronts, offices with a view, homes where a mirrored facade would jar. Night Vision 25 rejects more heat at 63% TSER but darkens the glass to 24% VLT. Silver P18 rejects the most at 77% but reads as a visible silver mirror. Prestige 70 is the one that disappears.
Which glass it suits
Prestige 70 goes on the inside face of flat glass. It is safe on single panes, tinted glass and double glazing, and 3M publishes performance figures for all four combinations. Allow 8 to 10 days after fitting for the film to bond fully before judging the final look.
