3M's flagship automotive film. A non-metallised multilayer optical film that rejects 97% of infrared and 50% of total solar energy at a near-clear 69% light transmission, so the cabin runs cooler without a dark tint. Blocks 99.9% of UV. Fitted at our studio and priced per vehicle.
Crystalline is built differently from a tinted film. Instead of dye or metal it stacks many optical layers that reflect infrared while passing visible light, so at 69% light transmission it still rejects 97% of infrared in the 900 to 1,000 nm band and 69% of the solar infrared energy that would otherwise re-radiate into the cabin. Total solar energy rejected is 50%, glare comes down by 22%, and 99.9% of UV is blocked. Those are 3M's figures for the film on 6 mm clear glass.
Because it is non-metallised it does not interfere with phone, GPS, radio or toll-tag signals, and it is the film to choose when the rules or your own taste call for glass that still looks clear: the windscreen and front doors are where it earns its keep. It goes on the inside of the glass with a wet application, is heat-shrunk to curved panes, and the car can be driven after 24 hours while the adhesive cures fully over two to three weeks.
This is an automotive film and it is not sold by the square foot. The price depends on the vehicle, the glass count and whether a fleet is being done, so it is quoted per vehicle at the studio. Use the finder to choose it and request a callback, or ask the specialist to advise on the call. The legal tint limit on the road is the owner's to confirm before fitting.
Which glass it suits
Fitted to the inside of vehicle glass, flat or curved, and light enough for the windscreen and front doors wherever local rules allow a film there. It is not an architectural film: for building glass the heat-rejection range is the right place to look, and the finder prices those by the square foot.
