A one-way mirror built for the evening problem: standard mirror film weakens once inside lights outshine the sky. MDN 500 passes just 1.5% of light, so interior visibility after dark stays far more limited than a standard mirror's. Rooms run darker and lean on artificial lighting. Suited to overlooked ground floors, clinics and executive offices.

MDN 500 is Reflectiv's Day and Night one-way mirror. A standard mirror film works on a light difference. It mirrors while outside is brighter than inside, and it gives up once the lights go on. MDN 500 carries an extra layer of transparent black polyester behind the silver, which stretches how far that difference can go before the effect fails.

The result is silver on the outside face and black on the inside. It holds privacy later into the evening than a plain mirror film does, and the trade is light: the room runs darker and leans more on artificial lighting. Reflectiv is direct about the limit and so are we. A one-way mirror is a play of light, not a switch, and a brightly lit room against a dark street will still show.

The film is 60 microns of crystal PET with a 13 g/m2 acrylic polymer adhesive, fitted inside, rated Euroclass B-s1, d0, on 1.52 metre rolls in 5, 10 and 30 metre lengths. There is an exterior version, MDN 500X, for glass that cannot be reached from inside or that the interior film is not cleared for.

Which glass it suits

MDN 500 goes on the inside face of clear glass 4 to 10 mm and tempered glass, and Reflectiv clears it for clear double glazing up to about 1.2 square metres a pane. It is not specified for tinted, laminated or wired glass, nor for larger sealed units or double glazing with a tinted or laminated pane. Where the glass falls outside that list, the exterior MDN 500X covers every glass type.
