A brilliant frosted film that gives clear glass a refined dusted-crystal effect. Elevates partitions and facades aesthetically and adds privacy where it's needed.

Dusted Crystal 314 belongs to 3M's Scotchcal ElectroCut graphic film line: a matte cast vinyl, 50 microns thin, that gives clear glass the uniform look of acid-etched crystal without treating the glass itself. Being an ElectroCut film it also plotter-cuts cleanly, so logos, stripes and manifestation bands can be cut from the same roll that frosts the pane.

It hands over privacy softly rather than blacking the window out: light keeps passing through the translucent matte surface while shapes soften to silhouettes. 3M rates it at fifteen years for interior application, and the solvent acrylic adhesive bonds at 17 newtons per 25 mm, firmly enough that 3M classes the film as hard to remove. Worth knowing before a temporary scheme is cut from a permanent film.

Sun-facing installs age differently. On exterior vertical glass in the hottest climate zone 3M lists, the Gulf band whose sun is closest to Pakistan's, rated durability drops to about three years, which is why we fit it to the interior face. The same 3M line also makes five frosted colour variants, rose, crystal, green, blue and gold, worth asking about for a project.

Which glass it suits

Dusted Crystal is applied wet or dry to the interior face of flat glass. 3M advises against curved surfaces and against sandwiching it between two sheets of glass, and it wants a clean, smooth pane. Once on, it is a permanent film rather than a peel-off.
